Gardai investigating two incidents after shooting and stabbing occur nearby in Dublin

A man has been rushed to hospital after he was shot in the Tallaght area of South Co Dublin.

The man, who was discovered with an apparent gunshot injury, was taken by ambulance to Tallaght Hospital, where his injuries this evening are being described by gardai as “non-life threatening.”

The shocking incident occurred in the Russell Place area near Jobstown at around 4:30pm.

In a statement to the Irish Mirror this evening gardai said: “Shortly before 4:30pm on Sunday 9th July 2023, Gardaí received reports of a man discovered with injuries in the Russell Place area of Tallaght, Dublin 24.

“The man was taken to Tallaght University Hospital where his injuries are currently described as non-life threatening. The scene at Russell Place is currently preserved for technical examination. Gardaí continue to investigate all the circumstances of this incident.”

Meanwhile, gardai are also investigating after a man was stabbed in the face at Mac Uilliam Park - less than a 10 minute walk away from the shooting scene.

The horror incident unfolded at 6:30pm, just two hours after the shooting victim was discovered. Gardai could not clarify if the incidents are in any way linked.

The stabbing victim was rushed to Tallaght hospital with what gardai have described as “non-life-threatening injuries.” It is understood he was stabbed in the face.

“A technical examination of the scene has been conducted and investigations are ongoing,” a Garda spokesperson said.
