Two Gardai have been praised for their heroic response to a young man's serious injuries.
Garda Roisín O’Donnell and Garda Rose McGlynn were on patrol on the M1 in Co Louth last month when they were flagged down by a distressed couple on the hard shoulder. Gardai rushed to the aid of their son, Tabish, who had suffered serious injuries to his arm while at home.
Tabish's parents were in the process of taking him to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda when their car suffered a flat tyre. Their son was experiencing significant blood loss and a bone was protruding out of his arm.
Gardai wasted no time in assisting Tabish and quickly made a tourniquet out of his parents clothing in order to stem the blood flow. Garda McGlynn rushed Tabish and his parents to hospital while Garda O'Donnell carried out traffic management duties on the road.

Tabish lapsed in and out of consciousness during his drive to the hospital, which prompted Gardai to contact medics ahead of time. Doctors were warned of the nature of his condition and he received immediate care upon arrival.
The young man likely would not have survived his injuries if not for the tourniquet implemented by Gardai. Tabish was later transferred to Connolly Hospital in Dublin in order to have complex surgery.
The 19-year-old is now in a stable condition. He is expected to make a full recovery from his injuries.
