Gardai find group 'making efforts to leave Clonmel' after over 30 items taken from sports shop

Gardaí intercepted a gang who worked as a team to steal 30 items from a Tipperary sports store.

Gardai made four arrests after thousands worth of sports items were taken from the shop on Saturday.

The group "worked as a team" according to the guards who said the total amount of items taken came to a sum of €2,060, Cork Beo reported.

The shop alerted authorities shortly after the fleecing, and the Clonmel Regular Unit began their search for the perpetrators straight away.

They then discovered four people, who they said, were found "making efforts to leave" the Tipp town with the stolen items - which officers later returned to the store.

The four in question were all arrested and have now been charged, to appear before a judge.

A garda spokesperson said: "Four individuals working as a group entered a sports shop in town, took 31 items to the value of €2060 and left the shop having concealed the items.

"Following a search by the Clonmel Regular Unit members, the suspects were located close by making efforts to leave Clonmel undetected with all of the stolen property.

"They were all arrested, detained and interviewed and have now been charged to court. The stolen property was recovered and has been returned to the owner."
