Tallaght Garda Station has reopened after being evacuated earlier in the evening, with gardai calling a bomb squad following an alarming discovery.
Earlier this evening, gardai discovered "contents of concern" in the bag of a man they arrested. Two hours after the evacuation, the Station has reopened and the bomb squad removed the bag and its contents. According to a Garda spokeswoman, the items will now be subject to further technical and forensic examination.
All road closures following the worrying discovery have now been lifted, she further announced. A man in his 30s has been arrested and detained at a South Dublin Garda Station. Investigations are ongoing.
The Garda spokeswoman has said: "Tallaght Garda Station has now reopened to the public and all road closures have been lifted. The Irish Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal team have completed their examination of the bag and contents.
"The bag and contents have been removed and will now be subject to further technical and forensic examination. A male in his 30s has been arrested and detained under Section 30 Offences Against the State Act, 1939 at a South Dublin Garda Station.
"Investigations are ongoing. An Garda Siochana has no further comment at this time."
