A garda has been injured after an assault on a street in Co Offaly.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, September 11, when gardaí confronted an allegedly intoxicated man on Townsend Street in Birr, Co Offaly.
The man, in his 20s, became violent and kicked and injured one of the attending gardaí. The garda was subsequently brought to hospital for the treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

His injuries did not require admission to hospital and he left after minor treatment.
It's understood the suspect also damaged a Garda squad car in the course of the incident before being arrested. He was later charged in relation to the incident and appeared in court in Tullamore this morning.
In a statement, gardaí confirmed the details: "Gardaí responded to a public order incident that occurred on Townsend Street, Birr, Co. Offaly at approximately 1:00am on Sunday, September 11, 2022.
"During the course of an arrest, a Garda member was assaulted and received medical assessment. The suspect, a male in his 20s, was conveyed to Birr Garda station.
"He has since been charged contrary to Section 4 and Section 6 of the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act, 1994 and appeared before Tullamore District Court this morning, Wednesday, September 28, 2022."
