Garda investigation underway after man's body discovered in Dublin river

Gardai are investigating after a man's body was found in a Dublin river on Friday morning.

The man, aged in his 60s, was discovered in the Santry River in Raheny at around 9:30am.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, with his body moved to the Dublin City Morgue where a post-mortem examination will take place.

A Garda spokesperson told Dublin Live an investigation has been launched into the grim discovery.

He said: "Gardai in Raheny are investigating the discovery of a body of man in his 60s in the River Santry near Raheny Village at approximately 9:30am on Friday, February 4, 2022.

"The man was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. The Coroner was notified and the deceased has since been removed to the Dublin City Morgue where a post-mortem examination will be carried out.

"The results of the post-mortem will determine the course of the Garda investigation."

Separately, a woman's body was found near the Institute of Technology Sligo on Thursday.

The woman, aged in her late teens, was discovered in Ballinode, Co Sligo.

The remains have since been removed from the scene, and a post-mortem will take place in due course.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardai are investigating the discovery of a woman’s body (late teens) in Ballinode, Co Sligo on Thursday, February 3, 2022.

“The woman’s body has since been removed from the scene and a post-mortem will take place in due course. The results of the post-mortem which will determine the course of the investigation.”
