The Garda Commissioner has said the triple murder of three siblings in Tallaght yesterday is one of the worst things he has come across since he became a police officer.
Ireland’s top cop Drew Harris described the barbaric killings of Lisa Cash, 18, and her eight-year-old twin brother and sister, Christy and Chelsea Cawley as “dreadful” and “traumatic”.
The three relatives were butchered in their own on Rossfield Avenue in Tallaght by a man known to them in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The top cop said he has spoken to some of the gardai who initially responded and said they’ve been offered support.
Speaking outside Finglas Garda Station, Drew Harris said: “I’ve spoken to some of the guards who initially responded. It has to be said it was one of the worst incidents that I’ve heard of or come across in my service.
“We have put in place appropriate support for them … but also we’d acknowledge very much the trauma visited upon the local community in terms of the shock of this incident and the subsequent grief.
“That can’t be underestimated either. So we are very much there to support the community and to offer reassurance but at the same time also our responsibility is to look after my own members who dealt with such an awful incident.”
The top cop also praised the neighbours and gardai who raced to the tragic scene.
He continued: “I would acknowledge as well that neighbours made a quick report to ourselves and we responded quickly.
“The initial gardai arrived and did tremendous work. They showed great courage … they were quickly backed up by specialist colleagues who again acted with great professionalism and courage to deal with the incident.”
Speaking about the probe, he told reporters: “We are obviously now engaged in an investigation and some it’s limited what I can say in respect of that.
“I would appeal for anyone who was in the area of Rossfield Avenue in the early hours of Sunday morning at half past midnight if they haven’t spoken to gardai already they should contact my colleagues in Tallaght.
“This is a live investigation still very much we are conducting our inquiries and obviously then we are liaising with the Director of Public Prosecutions even as we speak.”
