One county saw a flurry of arrests over one night this week at both a checkpoint and after reports of erratic driving were filed.
Gardai in Waterford said they had a “busy night” on Wednesday into the early hours of Thursday as they made three arrests for drink driving.
Responding to reports of erratic driving, Gardai made two arrests for drink driving. The reports they received came in late on Wednesday evening.
A post on the Garda Siochana Waterford/Kilkenny/Carlow Facebook page said: “Busy night on our roads in Waterford city last night.
“Gardai followed up on two reports of erratic driving before midnight resulting in two arrests for drink driving.”
In the early hours of Thursday morning, Gardai also stopped a person at a checkpoint in Waterford.
They made their third arrest of the evening when the motorist was stopped at their mandatory intoxicating testing checkpoint.
The post said: “A third arrest occurred at 1am when a motorist was stopped at a mandatory intoxicating testing checkpoint in the city.”
It comes as Wexford hurling star Conor McDonald has been convicted of drink driving and disqualified for three years.
McDonald was charged with drink driving and with failing or refusing to provide a preliminary breath specimen at Ramsfort, Gorey, on May 3, 2020.
Yesterday, nearly two years later, Mr McDonald was convicted of drink driving, following a case before Gorey District Court.
Judge Cheatle disqualified McDonald from driving for three years and also imposed a €300 fine on the drink driving charge and marked the charge of failing to comply as taken into account.
