Gardai arrested the driver of a vehicle on Wednesday after they were found to be in breach of serious laws.
The Commercial Vehicle Unit were conducting a checkpoint this week when they pulled over a car.
Upon further inspection, gardai found that the vehicle had two very dangerously bald tyres.
It is an offence to drive with defective or worn tyres. This attracts a fine of €80 and up to four penalty points upon conviction.
The minimum permitted tyre tread depth is 1.6 mm. However, for safety reasons, it is recommended that each tyre should have at least 3.0 mm tread depth. Most new tyres have 8.0 mm.
The car was also found to have none of the necessary requirements for it to be legally driven on the road.
The vehicle had no tax, NCT or insurance disc, and gardai found the lights to be faulty.
The motorist was also an unaccompanied learner driver.
A Garda spokesperson said: “This week when they stopped this car for having 2 bald tyres; no tax, NCT or insurance disc; faulty lights and for being driven by an unaccompanied learner with L Plates displayed.”
The car was seized, and a Fixed Charge Penalty Notice was issued.
Elsewhere, gardai from the Naas Roads Policing Unit seized a vehicle for speeding while out on patrol.
The motorist was recorded travelling at a speed of 153kmph in a 120kmph zone.
The driver was also an unaccompanied learner driver.
A Garda spokesperson said: “Naas RPU detected this motorist travelling at 153km/hr on the motorway. The motorist was an unaccompanied Learner Permit Holder with no L plates displayed.
“The vehicle was seized, and an FCPN issued.”
