Garang Kuol in Hearts transfer boost with Jambos in 'pole position' to sign Newcastle wonderkid

Hearts are reportedly leading the race to sign Australian wonderkid Garang Kuol.

The teenager, who signed for Newcastle United when the transfer window opened, is to be loaned out by the Magpies immediately. Kuol was in Edinburgh for a look around earlier this week as sporting director Joe Savage showed him and Newcastle loan manager Shola Ameobi around their Riccarton training base, but a number of clubs also gave him the guided tour in the hope of securing him on loan.

But now Australian outlet Keep Up claim that Hearts are favourites to land Kuol and a deal could be agreed as soon as Monday. Record Sport understands nothing has been signed or confirmed as yet but the Tynecastle club remain hopeful their pitch has been successful and that Kuol will join Socceroos teammates Cammy Devlin, Kye Rowles and Nathaniel Atkinson in Gorgie, increasing the Aussie contingent in Robbie Neilson ’s squad.

Speaking after Saturday’s 1-1 draw with St Mirren, Neilson certainly seemed confident Kuol would indeed be sent his way, and could be in the squad for the second part of their double header against the Buddies on Friday night. He said: "We’re still waiting on a decision on him, so it’s up to the parent club Newcastle to make the decision. We’d love to have him here, we’ve given a pitch, and now it’s up to them to decide.

"We’re expecting him to fly late Monday night, early Tuesday morning, so he’ll hopefully be available for Friday, if his fitness levels are there."
