A PlayStation user spent a whopping $2,000 to purchase 24 years of PlayStation Plus to avoid having to pay for future price hikes.
The individual in question is Reddit user On_Reddit_In_Class who said that they decided to spend thousands of dollars to buy a PlayStation Plus subscription until 2048. This was due to the absurd price increases that have been happening in the past few years.
PlayStation Plus Subscription for 24 Years
The user said that they plan to be gaming for the rest of their lives, making the decision a good effort to save a lot of money. Breaking it down, a PlayStation Plus Essential subscription will cost you $79.99 every year.
This means that 24 years would cost approximately $1,919.76. Fortunately for the Reddit user, Sony gave him an 89% discount to upgrade to a Premium subscription in a bizarre loophole.
He was only charged $199.99 instead of $1,889.75. This means that his total expenditure was worth $2,119.75, according to IGN.
A lot of the user reactions to On_Reddit_In_Class' revelation were mostly shock and awe, many believed it was actually logical. This is assuming that the PlayStation Plus subscription continues to run until the date that he purchased it.
This is because the prices of subscription services are always on the rise, including Xbox Game Pass and Netflix. The last time that Sony raised the price of PlayStation Plus was September last year, when it went from $59.99 to $79.99 for the most basic tier per year.
Saving Money on Price Hikes
A lot of the people who found out about the Reddit user's decision said that if their budgets allowed, they would do the same thing. Others were a little bit more concerned as they were wary of subscribing to a service for such a long time, Level Up said.
This is not the first time that such a move was made as other PlayStation users have taken advantage of prices before price hikes. This is often impossible with other paid services as companies restrict the accumulation of subscription time.
Sony offers players several different tiers of membership with the PlayStation Plus subscription service. They give gamers a variety of games in their library, including many classic retro games that are still popular today.
The PlayStation Plus library has a wide selection of titles that were released throughout Sony's long history. The package includes both new and old games and is constantly growing every time the company adds a new game, according to Game Rant.
