French gaming company Ubisoft has released the mobile game Assassin’s Creed Identity for Android smartphones and tablets. While this is the second game in the action adventure series to show up on smartphones, this is its first game which offers 360-degree control over the surroundings, like in console variants of the game. The game has already been available for iOS devices since February.
The game’s lead character the Assassin is warrior with multiple identities, which is why the game is named Identity. Some of these identities such as Berserker, Trickster and Shadowblade are available for free, while the Thief can be unlocked through in-app purchases. These identities give access to different talents of the Assassin. For example, as a trickster, the Assassin can use disguises and use decoy to confuse the enemy. As a Shadowblade he can use knives which can pierce any armour.
Immersive graphics
Set in medieval Italy, the game is pretty well-detailed in terms of graphics. It is not just the characters’ attires which have been captured well, even the monuments look original. Mobile games with an eye for fine details are hard to find. For instance, a view from the top of Firenze Chapel in the game looks just the same as in real world.
Engaging gameplay
The game has a central campaign which rewards players with coins and newer items and more experience. It also offers a series of side missions where players can hone their skills. The gameplay involves face-to-face combat, running out the soldiers, climbing walls, throwing bombs and blending with the crowd using disguises. For a mobile game, this has a lot to offer for users looking for a serious action-adventure game for mobile devices.
Controlling characters in an action game on a small screen is the toughest part. The size of keys can slow down the player and mar the overall experience. Fortunately, this game uses a combination of floating keys for movement and toggling the camera and another set of keys for performing actions. Attack and defence are controlled through the second set of keys. They are very handy to use. The screen also shows a map to help users locate their targets. In case something new shows up, the game provides some hint to alert the player.
Is it worth downloading?
The Assassin’s Creed Identity is an offline game which means one can play it anywhere. However, the game requires ample amount of on-board storage as it takes up 2.18GB of space after installation. Also the smartphone’s hardware configuration should be good enough to handle the game’s graphics well. For an Assassin’s Creed fan, the game offers another field day with their favourite game, albeit on a smaller screen. For someone who loves action games but isn’t familiar with the franchise, this game is a perfect excuse to begin.
