Both Galway and Mayo headed into the last round of group games in pole position to make the quarter-finals.
However, after surprise defeats to Armagh and Cork respectively, one of the leading contenders for the All-Ireland Championship will be eliminated this weekend.
Galway, who reached the All-Ireland Final last season, managed to finish second in Group Two and have home advantage while Mayo slipped to third in Group One and were given an away tie.
Kevin McStay’s side drew with Galway in the opening game of the League before beating the Tribesmen in the Division One final in Croke Park in April and will be hoping to regain their early-season form while Pádraic Joyce has a number of injury concerns ahead of this weekend’s Connacht derby.
