Galway United are set to join the Women's National League from next season.
The club announced the move today and also revealed that u-17 and u-19 women's teams will also be created. The move has been mooted for a while, with rumours swirling that United were set to join the WNL pyramid after Galway WFC's decision to withdraw from the league in 2023.
Talks between the FAI and United have been ongoing for the past few weeks. In a statement released this afternoon, United paid tribute to Galway WFC's efforts to further the women's game in the west of Ireland in recent years.

The statement reads, "Galway United are delighted to confirm that they will be entering a senior women’s, under-17 and under-19 girls teams in 2023, ensuring the survival and the continued growth & development of women’s elite football in Galway and the West.
"We thank all involved in Galway WFC for the significant contribution they have made over the years."
"Galway United will continue to be an all-inclusive football club, a club for all of us, and we look forward to a new chapter of men’s and women’s football in Galway."
With the move, Galway United will become one of the few League of Ireland teams to have both a men's and women's senior side. Athlone Town, Bohemians, Cork City, Shelbourne, Sligo Rovers and Treaty United are the other clubs in question.
