The city of Galveston is taking precautionary measures in anticipation of Tropical Storm Beryl's landfall on the Texas coast early Monday. According to the local government's Facebook page, all public facilities will be closed on Monday.
City officials announced that only essential personnel will report to work, while recreation centers, public buildings, municipal court, and City Hall will remain closed. However, police, fire, and emergency services will continue to operate as usual to ensure public safety.
In addition, public works crews will be on standby to address any storm-related infrastructure issues that may arise during the storm. City leaders are hopeful that all public buildings will reopen and city operations will resume as normal on Tuesday.
Tropical Storm Beryl is forecasted to intensify and potentially regain hurricane strength late Sunday. The National Hurricane Center has issued a warning indicating the possibility of a category 2 hurricane landfall on Monday.
