A celebration is being held for a programme which helped boost the employment prospects of 15 young people from the Stewartry.
The Galloway Glens scheme wants to encourage young people to plan to work in the region in the future and supported intern positions at a range of employers in a bid to give them work experience and challenge the perception that young people must leave the area to obtain work.
The programme’s success is being celebrated with Galloway Glens Intern Week, which aims to share the findings of the programme and experiences of the interns themselves.
A report into the programme revealed local employers are keen to support interns, with a six month position being the ideal term.
Pro actively advertising positions is deemed the best way forward, with employers valuing financial and partnership support.
Galloway Glens team leader, McNabb Laurie, said: “The report highlights that this place based and relationship-led approach to the provision of intern positions can deliver benefits for the employer and the successful candidate.
“If it works well, one of these roles can really change a life and so offers excellent value for money and return on investment.
“Employers value financial investment – of course – but also partnership support in recruiting and overseeing the roles.
