A Galloway community group is set to make its visitor centre more energy efficient.
The Whithorn Trust has been awarded £43,470 by Museums Galleries Scotland from its resilience fund, which is supported by the Scottish Government.
The money will help fund the replacement of the uninsulated, flat roof at the trust’s visitor centre with a warm deck fibreglass roof.
Development manager of The Whithorn Trust, Julia Muir Watt, pictured above, said: “This has been an outstanding item for some years, both in terms of cost and in terms of our environmental policy, and it’s only with this help that we can afford to replace it.
“The ability to keep our exhibitions at steady ambient temperature in dry conditions is key to our conservation aims and obligations, so this is an investment in the museum in all its aspects, and for the long term.”
CEO of Museums Galleries Scotland, Lucy Casot, said: “I’m delighted that the resilience fund will support museums to make impactful changes that will support their financial and environmental sustainability, so that they can continue to be places for enjoyment, relaxation, and education for everyone.”
