Galaxy Note 9 Finds Success Amid Worrying Problems

Samsung may be facing a number of issues with the recently released Galaxy Note 9, but the critical acclaim continues to pour in. The latest is Consumer Reports, which labels the Note 9 as its highest rated smartphone.

Three key areas stood out for Consumer Reports, areas which are important to the buying public. Those are the long battery life, the durability of the handset, and the quality of the camera. Bree Fowler has written up the handset:

Consumer Reports just finished its testing of the extra-large phablet. A long-lasting battery and other factors have helped the Note9 become our highest-rated smartphone.

At least for now.

The Note9 may face stiff competition in CR’s labs from the new iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, which are going on sale to the public this week. Consumer Reports only rates products we buy at retail, which means test results on the new iPhones will be available soon.

Many of the reported problems with the Note 9 are with the camera. Various users have suggested software fixes, and moderators on Samsung’s own forum have confirmed that fixes are coming, but the promised ‘fast updates’ to Android only work if the bugs in the code are found, fixed, and tested in short order.

These small details are what will keep people coming back for more. The hardware and the promise of the Note 9 is becoming clearer every day. Now we’re waiting for Samsung’s software team to step up and get things back on track so the Note 9 can go head-to-head with the new iPhone handsets.
