Samsung’s Galaxy Note 9 is not having a smooth ride. More software problems are being reported, with the latest issue regarding Android’s on-screen navigation controls. Piunika Web reports:
Are the on-screen soft keys – recent, home, and back buttons – present on the bottom of your Samsung Galaxy Note 9 screen have suddenly become less responsive? Like, do you press them many times in order to generate a response? If yes, then you aren’t alone.
There have been similar reports from other Galaxy Note 9 users as well. What makes this news worthy is that Samsung has confirmed the problem, saying a fix is being worked on.
These latest problems come on top of continued reports of the Note 9 camera becoming unresponsive and freezing under certain circumstances. Although a software patch has been released by the South Korean company, it has not eradicated the problem.
Samsung’s Galaxy Note 9 was seen as the ultimate evolution of the current generation – the Galaxy S10 is expected to make a larger step forward with improved camera and biometrics technology. These flaws on the Note 9, which appear to be software based, are not easily hand waved away.
As consumers look for more frequent and stable updates to their smartphone’s core apps and OS framework, it’s important that new changes can be rolled out as well as having the infrastructure to develop and test the various configuration. Google has placed a lot of emphasis on achieving the former through the new framework of Android, but this only works if manufacturers can work with the framework and allocate resources.
One of the most compelling mainstream arguments for Apple’s iPhone is the frequency of software updates. Google has picked up this challenge, but as arguably the lead manufacturer in Android, Samsung needs to follow though to raise the tide for the platform.
