Gael Energy signs wind turbine maintenance agreement with Dutch firm

Scottish wind energy operations and maintenance business Gael Energy has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Netherlands-based Rengineers.

This will see the companies enter the operations and maintenance market, servicing the UK network of onshore wind turbines across a range of different technologies.

The strategic alliance will see North of Scotland-based Gael Energy support Rengineers in the roll out of its insurance-backed Garant maintenance contract to wind farm operators across the country.

This contract ensures that all conceivable costs associated wind turbine maintenance are covered by an annual fixed fee, with loss of earnings for operators compensated in full beyond a 48-hour shut down period.

Gael Energy managing director Hamish Campbell said: “With long term service and support contracts on many of the current generation of wind turbines coming to an end, it’s a market that has huge potential for us - we have already signed contracts with two new clients in the first week of the Rengineers agreement.

“The Garant contract will initially be rolled out in Scotland supported by Gael Energy from our three nationwide service bases; in Aberdeenshire, Dumfries and Evanton.

“The combination of Gael Energy’s coverage, expertise, existing relationships with landowners and three operational bases, with Rengineers’ vast experience and parts, software and technical capabilities - not to mention their scale - will give us a huge advantage in this growing market.”

Gerhard de Pater, international sales manager at Rengineers, commented: “Our partnership with Gael Energy allows us to fast track the delivery of our revolutionary Garant contract to UK shores.

“We are delighted to have discovered a company who shares our underlying value of delivering for the customer - we look forward to building on this already great relationship and are very happy to see progress being made in such a small timeframe.”

Currently employing 20 people, the agreement with Rengineers is expected to create up to 15 new jobs at Gael Energy in the coming months, from experienced engineers to apprentices.

Founded in 2015, Gael Energy's engineering services include wind turbine installation and upgrades, routine maintenance, remote monitoring, inspection and testing.

With a number of large Scottish landowners among its client list, the company currently maintains more than 400 wind turbines nationwide.

In 2022, the company moved into a new 3500 sq ft facility near Invergordon on the Cromarty Firth.
