Arsenal star Gabriel Martinelli has sent a warning to Manchester City after their win over Wolves on Saturday and has promised more from the side after the World Cup. It comes as the Gunners built a five point lead at the top of the Premier League, confirming they will be top at Christmas for the first time since 2007.
Mikel Arteta's side managed that feat after a hugely important 2-0 win over Wolves at Molineux, where a brace from club captain Martin Odegaard earned all three points. It keeps them firmly part of the title picture, but the World Cup break could halt their momentum at a far from ideal time.
"When a team is in that moment you want to carry on playing of course, but that’s not possible," Arteta said on the stoppage in the season. "We have to use that time as best as possible. For those not participating in the World Cup they will have some time off which they fully deserve and the rest can just fulfil a dream that every kid has to have the chance to represent their team in a national cup. It doesn’t get better than that."

With Manchester City falling to a surprise defeat at home to Brentford earlier in the day and the gap at the top extending to five points, Pep Guardiola will be frustrated that his side aren't closer or even leading in the title race. However, he has conceded that the Gunners have been the best side so far this season.
It could get even worse for the City manager though, as Arsenal star Martinelli has sent a 'warning' to his side and a powerful message to Arsenal fans in a tweet after the Wolves game saying: "Hope you enjoyed that as much as we did Gooners. More to give once we’re back."
The fact the side could give more after the World Cup could be a warning for City, who are yet to hit top gear this campaign compared to the Gunners. There are plenty more games to come in the campaign that could swing the title race either way, but it's a huge boost to Arteta that his side head into the World Cup break top of the league.
