Gabriel Martinelli fires sharp demand after Arsenal win at Newcastle United

Arsenal's 2-0 win at Newcastle United on Sunday ensured Mikel Arteta's remain in the hunt for the Premier League title.

The Gunners saw a Newcastle penalty overturned just eight minutes in and Eddie Howe's side also hit the woodwork twice in a frantic game at St James' Park. Arsenal opened the scoring in the first half thanks to Martin Odegaard before a Fabian Schar own goal sealed all three points for Mikel Arteta's men.

Odegaard rifled home the opener from range before Schar turned a cross into his own goal in the second half to leave Arsenal heading back to London just one point behind Premier League table-toppers Manchester City. Pep Guardiola's side do, though, have the added distractions of a Champions League semi-final over two legs to deal with as well as an FA Cup final against Manchester United.

Arsenal's sole focus is finishing the season as strongly as possible and they have only three games left of 2022/23. Gunners striker Gabriel Martinelli has urged his team's fans to keep the faith as the title race continues.

City have a game-in-hand on Arteta's men so they have the advantage, but Guardiola's side still have to play Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion. "Keep believing Gooners," Martinelli wrote on social media platform Instagram.

Martinelli's attitude mirrors that of his boss, Arteta, who wants his side to carry on doing as much as they can to win the Premier League for the first time since 2004. "We are there, now we want to keep digging and the prize is there, not too far," Arteta said.

"The only thing we can do is keep insisting and don't turn our backs and lose the focus on something else, be determined every single day. "Let's keep going and see what happens."

Arsenal return to action when they play Brighton on Sunday.
