Gabriel Jesus to miss Man City's Champions League quarter-final second leg with Atletico Madrid

Gabriel Jesus will be suspended for Manchester City's Champions League quarter-final second leg against Atletico Madrid next week after he picked up his third booking of the competition in their win at the Etihad on Tuesday night.

Pep Guardiola's side were forced to overcome a resilient Atletico defence as they attempted to secure a first-leg lead ahead of the reverse clash at the Wanda Metropolitano next Wednesday. A moment of magic from Phil Foden finally unpicked the lock in the second half, allowing Kevin De Bruyne to hand City a 1-0 win.

Foden had been on the field a matter of minutes when he produced the standout moment of the match, though one of his teammates who was introduced alongside him in the 68th minute will not be available for the second leg. Jesus was walking a tightrope heading into the clash with Diego Simeone's side, knowing a booking would see him handed a one-match ban.

With just five minutes of the contest remaining, the Brazilian was shown a yellow card for dissent and will now miss next week's trip to Madrid. Both Kevin De Bruyne and Joao Cancelo were also one booking away from a suspension but both came away from the game unscathed.

Next up for Guardiola's charges is a home clash with Liverpool as they look to maintain their lead at the top of the Premier League table. Three days later is the second leg with Atletico before another meeting with Jurgen Klopp's side, this time in the semi-final of the FA Cup.
