Gabriel Jesus sends emotional Man City parting message as Arsenal transfer confirmed

Gabriel Jesus has sent an emotional message to the Manchester City fans as his big-money move to Arsenal is confirmed.

The Gunners have confirmed the signing of the 25-year-old in a deal worth around £45million as Mikel Arteta strengthens his attacking options ahead of the new campaign. He is their fourth summer addition after Marquinhos arrived from Sao Paolo, Porto's Fabio Viera joined in a £35m transfer and Matt Turner made the switch from New England Revolution in the MLS.

Arteta made it clear to the club's hierarchy that he was incredibly keen on a reunion with the Brazilian international after Jesus enjoyed his best season at the Etihad Stadium during Arteta's final campaign as an assistant to Pep Guardiola. The entire transfer has been a poorly kept secret from both sides.

Now, it has been announced, Jesus has issued a parting message to the City supporters after he enjoyed an incredibly successful five years at the club, winning four Premier League titles, one FA Cup and three Carabao Cups. He thanked the Citizens for allowing him to live his dream and admitted his surprise about moving to one of England's best teams at such an early stage of his career.

He said: "The little boy from Jardim Peri, in the north of Sao Paolo, had a dream. When I was a kid, I just wanted to play football. The dream was becoming true.

"I wanted to conquer in Brazil, and I did. I wanted to represent my country, and I did. So the phone rang. On the other side of the line was a new dream. One I hadn't even dreamed of yet.

"When I realised, I was here. In Manchester, wearing the City shirt. Here I experienced everything. I cried, I smiled, I conquered, I was happy, I learned.

"I dreamed of conquering and we did. Thank you City for being in my life for more than five years."

After the move was confirmed, Edu said: "We are delighted that we have secured the transfer of Gabriel. Everyone who knows football well knows the qualities of Gabriel Jesus.

"Gabriel is a player who we have admired for a long time now. He is 25 years old and an established Brazil international who has consistently demonstrated that he is a player at a very high level. We look forward to seeing him join up with his new teammates ahead of the new season. We all welcome Gabriel to Arsenal."
