Gabriel Jesus: Rio Ferdinand backs Arsenal transfer for ‘quality’ Manchester City star

Rio Ferdinand has backed Gabriel Jesus for a move to Arsenal this summer.

The Manchester City forward has been strongly linked with a move to north London in recent days, with Mikel Arteta having worked with the player before.

Arsenal are exploring options ahead of what they hope to a busy summer window and a striker is on their list of transfer targets.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left in February and Alexandre Lacazette’s future is unclear as his contract near its expiration date at the end of this season.

While Arteta’s young side have certainly impressed this season, firepower has been a problem.

No one in the top six has scored fewer goals and there is a massive reliance on young players Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe to finish chances.

Although not a regular starter at City, Jesus has proven a reliable goal scorer in the Premier League.

155 appearances have yielded 57 goals and 32 assists and, impressively, the Brazilian has been deployed on the right-wing for much of the past two years.

Speaking on his Vibe with Five Podcast, pundit Ferdinand said: “You speak to players about him, they appreciate him because he puts a good workload in, he has got quality.

“I think if he plays consistently in a team like Arsenal, I think he gets you goals.”
