Gabriel Jesus responds to rare Edu transfer confirmation amid ongoing Arsenal 'discussions'

Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus has reminded Arsenal what he can bring to the club should he make the switch to north London in the summer.

The Brazilian international scored four times and provided an assist for Pep Guardiola's side who beat bottom of the table Watford 5-1 on Saturday, just a day after being strongly linked with a move to the Gunners.

The Athletic is reporting that Arsenal are exploring the possibility of signing Jesus, adding that discussions between technical director Edu and the player's representatives are believed to have been taking place for a number of months, with the 25-year-old said to be open to the prospect.

football.london understands Arsenal are looking to sign at least two new players this summer, and Edu all but confirmed those plans when speaking to ESPN Brasil prior to the Premier League clash with Manchester United.

"We’re going to focus on signing one or two players," he said. "After last summer’s revolution, we need the next step. We’ve (got) our strategy ready." Joao Castelo-Branco, who interviewed Edu, later cleared up some confusion surrounding the quotes.

"I don’t think Edu meant there won’t be more than two signings, but in this window the focus will be to bring in one or two bigger signings compared to the last window where there was a focus on youth. These two main signings have already been planned and approved by the owners," the journalist explained.

Jesus is highly rated at Manchester City and worked closely with Mikel Arteta during the Spaniard's time as assistant to Guardiola. Despite Edu reportedly briefing Joao that he did not want to address rumours surrounding Jesus during the interview, the interest certainly appears concrete and would match plans to make top-quality additions ahead of next season.
