Arsenal have finally ended a streak of letting players leave the club for Manchester City - and this time they're looking to make a signing of their own in Gabriel Jesus.
Tommy Caton is currently the only player to ever transfer directly from City to Arsenal, although this occurred 39 years, and since then it's been one way traffic in the other direction. Niall Quinn first switched red for sky blue in 1990, before David Seaman moved to Manchester in 2003.
Since then, Arsenal have been ransacked by City and £71million has been spent on a total of five players, who were all signed after the club were taken over in 2008 by Sheikh Mansour. But the £45m deal to bring Jesus to Arsenal has ended the misery, and here Mirror Football looks at the players that jumped ship once City gained their riches.
Kolo Toure (£14m)
Kolo Toure was signed by City in 2009, and £14m was paid for the Ivorian's services. Toure will always be fondly remembered at Arsenal for being a member of their invincibles squad, but was sold by Arsene Wenger after the Gunners signed Thomas Vermaelen.
Arsenal were flooded with centre-backs at the time, having a total of seven on the books at the time of Toure's departure. And Toure joined City to partner Vincent Kompany at the back as they prepared for a new era.
Toure made 327 appearances for Arsenal and only missed one match during their invincible season. The defender went on to complete an impressive career at City, Liverpool and Celtic.
Gael Clichy (£7m)
Gael Clichy joined Arsenal as a youngster in 2003, when Wenger noticed his talents while playing for Cannes in France. Wenger quickly handed him a professional contract at the age of 17, and he was seen as the perfect back-up to Ashley Cole.
And the Frenchman began to impress, and arguably had the best season in his career after Cole left Arsenal to join Chelsea. Clichy's performances helped Arsenal fans get over Cole's departure, but it made his move to City in 2011 even more painful.
City only paid £7m for Clichy, who went on to make 138 Premier League appearances in a six-year spell at the Etihad. Clichy now plays for Swiss side Servette, as he enjoys the twilight of his career in Geneva.
Emmanuel Adebayor (£25m)
Emmanuel Adebayor was the first player to be poached from Arsenal once City gained their riches, and it led to one of the most infamous, yet iconic celebrations of all time. Arsenal accepted a bid of £25m for Adebayor in 2009, although it was anything but an amicable exit.
Arsenal fans were furious, as was former striking partner Robin van Persie, who even accused Adebayor of kicking him in the face once the two sides met the following season. He was lated handed a three-match ban for violent conduct, but that's not what sticks in the memory of the Arsenal fans.
Adebayor scored against Arsenal at the first time of asking, and ran to the away end to celebrate in front of his former fans. City went on to win the game 4-2, and Arsenal fans have hated the striker ever since.
Samir Nasri (£25m)
It's really not easy being an Arsenal fan at times, and just when they looked like becoming a powerhouse once more, the club lost Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri in the same summer. Nasri followed the same path as Adebayor and secured a £25m move to the Etihad in 2011.
Nasri arrived at Arsenal in 2008, and quickly became a fan favourite at the club. But the midfielder tarnished his legacy with a move away three years later, and accepted a bumper four-year at City over a contract extension at Arsenal.
The Frenchman won two Premier League titles following the move, but his career flopped shortly before the arrival of Pep Guardiola. A doping ban kept him away from the field for some time, and despite still only being 33, Nasri hasn't kicked a ball since 2020.
Bacary Sagna (free transfer)
Bacary Sagna is the only player since 2008 to have moved to City on a free deal, as the Frenchman snubbed an extension at Arsenal in 2014. With his deal coming to an end, Sagna's head was turned by City and he agreed to move to the Etihad.
Sagna was Arsenal's starting right-back for seven years, and his departure allowed Hector Bellerin to be given a chance in the first team. Sagna only spent three years at City, but he earned the salary he was looking for and ended his career in Canada while playing for Montreal.
Bellerin continued to improve at Arsenal, and there were once rumours of a £50m bid that would see the Spaniard return to Barcelona. The Gunners may now wish they had pursued it more, as he has fallen out of favour and is attempting to negotiate a free move to Real Betis.
