Gabriel Jesus makes injury admission as Arsenal striker reveals the one thing that never changed

The arrival of Gabriel Jesus has been by far one of the most transformative things to happen at Arsenal for a significant period of time. It is no surprise that his presence coincides with one of the most successful league campaigns in recent memory.

However, when Arsenal lost their new talisman during the World Cup there was of course serious concern. His influence on the side from a goalscoring and creative perspective was obvious and an extended period without him was sure to be an issue.

Yet, the Gunners maintained their gap at the top and yesterday even extended it beyond the five points it stood at when he underwent knee surgery. The period that Jesus spent out has been documented and a series produced by the club is set to release at some stage in the near future.

It’s likely that we’ll see how Jesus adapted to an extended period off the field and how it impacted his life, in addition to insight in the recovery procedure. That said, and curious to learn more about if anything was different in the development process while out, football.london spoke to the Brazilian after the 4-1 win over Crystal Palace.

Three months is a long time to be absent from the action but one would imagine that a player can do things and focus on aspects of themselves or their game typically blocked by the business of when playing a training every day. Although it was a question appreciated by Jesus, he didn’t have the answer.

“Good question, but I don’t have [the] answer now,” Jesus replied. “But it’s a very good question.”

Intrigued if video analysis was a greater asset used while out, football.london pressed the striker on the topic. Here, Jesus revealed that whether he was out injured or on the field that this was an integral part of his self-development.

“Yeah I do, it doesn’t matter if I’m out or if I’m playing I do every time,” he said. “I look at the game, I watch my chance if I score, if I miss I watch back.

“I like to improve. I love to improve myself, on the pitch, outside of the pitch. That’s me.”

If Arsenal have welcomed back an improved Gabriel Jesus for their final ten matches of the season after the international break then they will have a fantastic forward on their hands. With the form of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard at its peak of the season, the potential of Mikel Arteta’s forward line has the possibility of being greater than it ever has before.
