Gabriel Jesus makes admission over best Arsenal position amid Ivan Toney links

Gabriel Jesus insists he is happy to play wherever Arsenal need him despite moving to the club to occupy the No.9 role.

The Brazilian joined the Gunners last summer for £45m after playing in a number of different positions for Manchester City.

Though arriving in England from Palmeiras as a central striker, Pep Guardiola used the Brazilian out wide to accommodate the presence of Sergio Aguero.

His move to Arsenal saw him score 11 goals in 33 appearances across all competitions in a season disrupted by injury.

This time out, however, the 26-year-old has played alongside Eddie Nketiah as Mikel Arteta attempts to go one better in the Premier League title race.

Arsenal are also considering a move for Brentford forward Ivan Toney in the January transfer window. The Bees are ready to cash in for around £80m once the striker is available again, following an eight-month ban for breaching betting rules.

While playing as the leading forward was the reason Jesus left City for the Emirates Stadium, the Brazil international has stressed he is willing to play wherever he is needed.

“It’s worth pointing out that I’ve been playing a lot of roles at Arsenal, obviously when I chose to move from City to Arsenal, Edu and Arteta spoke to me, and I made it clear that I’d like to play 9,” he said while away on international duty.

“That was Arsenal’s idea, for me to play 9, loose.

“This season has been different, we’ve had injuries and in the last few games I’ve played three up front. For a while, I thought I’d just say I wanted to play 9, but I’m here to help the team. I’m blessed by God to have this talent and the versatility to play in all three forward positions. I prefer not to choose.”
