Gabri Veiga addresses transfer future amid Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle links

Gabri Veiga insists he wants to “live in the present” amid speculation that five top English clubs are battling to sign the midfielder.

The 21-year-old enjoyed a breakout campaign for Celta Vigo, scoring 11 goals and registering four assists in 36 matches this season. His performances have seen him linked with Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Newcastle.

But the Spain U21 international was coy about his future when asked about the interest he is attracting in a press conference.

“I’m not here to talk about my future, only my present. I want to be in the final [squad] of the Europeans” he said, referring to the upcoming U21 Euros in Romania and Georgia.

Veiga recently changed his representative, with the experienced Israeli Pini Zahavi now his new agent.

Veiga admitted: “It’s been a bit of a mess. I left my [agent] and then I took some time off. I went with the one that I think is the best and I think I’ve matured a lot.

“I don’t think about my future, I want to live in the present and the National Team. What I want for my future is to be in the European Championship, because there is still the final list, and then to win it. I am here in the national team, in a very nice challenge.”

Asked about Jude Bellingham’s move to Real Madrid — which could be worth £115million — and what he himself felt he was worth in comparison, Veiga said: “I can’t answer that question. Each player is worth what they pay. What I can say is that Bellingham is one of the best midfielders in the world and I learn a lot from him.”

Veiga’s release clause is £34.5m and Celta value him at around that mark.
