Gabby Petito's mum shares cryptic post after partner's 'confession' over her murder

Gabby Petito's mum has posted a cryptic message on social media just days after Brian Laundrie's notebook confession was made public.

Gabby's body was found in a remote area in Wyoming on September 19, and a post-mortem confirmed she had been strangled as manhunt was launched for the TikTok influencer's partner.

Laundrie's body was discovered at the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park in Florida on October 20.

The 23-year-old disappeared after returning from a cross-country road trip without Gabby, 22, and was the lone suspect in her death.

Gabby's mum Nichole Schmidt shared an image that read: "Narcissists rewrite history to escape accountability. You are not crazy."

The mum used the hashtags 'narcissist', 'selfish cowards' and 'justice for Gabby' alongside the image in her post.

This post marks the first response from Nichole to Laundrie's notebook, which was shared with the public just days ago and, it is believed, contains his last words before he took his own life last October.

Federal agents first recovered the notebook from the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park on October 20, 2021.

It was then passed to the Laundrie family attorney Steven Bertolino by the FBI, and Bertolino has now released it.

Within the pages of the journal, Laundrie admits to "ending" Gabby's life and calls the act a "merciful murder".

He explains that Gabby was dealing with an injury that would cause her to "wake in pain" and wrote that he ended her life "mercifully" because she "wanted" it.

In a page of the book, Laundrie makes claims that Gabby had injured herself and was “shaking violently”.

The pair had been travelling across the United States when Gabby was reported missing on September 11 last year after her parents were unable to get hold of the pair, who had been video logging their adventures.

Laundrie disappeared within days and a warrant for his arrest was issued on September 23, four days after Gabby's strangled body was found. His remains were discovered in October.

The Sun reports that in the recovered notebook, Laundrie wrote how Gabby had fallen into a creek as they attempted to return to the vehicle in the dark.

In the notebook he wrote that he 'found her breathing heavily gasping my name' and said 'she was freezing cold' and soaking wet.

He detailed carrying her towards the car before stumbling when his knees buckled and realising he couldn't carry her.

He wrote: "I started a fire and spooned her as close to the heat, she was so thin, had already been freezing too long. When I pulled Gabby out of the water she couldn’t tell me what hurt. She had a small bump on her forehead that eventually got larger.

"Her feet hurt, her wrist hurt but she was freezing, shaking violently, while carrying her she continually made sounds of pain, laying next to her she said little lapsing between violent shakes, gasping in pain, begging for an end to her pain.

"She would fall asleep and I would shake her awake fearing she shouldn’t close her eyes if she had a concussion. She would wake in pain start the whole painful cycle again while furious that I was the one waking her."

Gabby's parents Joe and Nichole recently appeared in a Florida court where they are suing Chris and Roberta Laundrie – Brian's parents - for allegedly withholding information about their daughter's death.

The Laundrie's lawyer has filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit.
