Gabby Petito’s dad issues heartbreaking message on her 24th birthday

Gabby Petito's father urged the public to help locate missing persons on the eve of what would have been his daughter's 24th birthday.

The vlogger was strangled to death by fiance Brian Laundrie while on a road trip together.

She was reported missing on September 11, 2021, before her remains were found near Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming eight days later.

Brian's remains were found in Florida's Carlton Reserve six weeks later close to a notebook and backpack after he shot himself.

Gabby's dad, Joseph Petito, posted a picture of a sunrise over the ocean on Saturday.

The devastated dad wrote that Gabby "would be turning 24 tomorrow and I’m watching the sunrise".

"I ask that if you’re reading this, please share a #MissingPerson story and help a family the same way you all helped us.

"Every share matters," Joseph said, followed by #TogetherWeCan.

The Sun reports that Gabby's parents, Joe and Nichole Schmidt, are suing Brian's parents for “intentional infliction of emotional distress,” after Brian confessed to murdering Gabby before dying of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The lawsuit filed in March 2022 alleges that Chris and Roberta Laundrie were aware their son had murdered Gabby but did not act.

While the search for Gabby was ongoing, the Petitos' lawyer read a letter at a news briefing begging the Laundries to help in the case.

“Please, if you or your family have any decency left, please, tell us where Gabby is located,” Richard Stafford said on September 16, 2021.

“Tell us if we are even looking in the right place. All we want is for Gabby to come home. Please help us make that happen.”

The case is scheduled for August 2023 but on Wednesday the trial judge set a start date of May 13, 2024, WLFA reported.

Motions, including one from the Laundries looking to have the case dismissed, will be presented in a series of pre-trial hearings.

A letter found in the Laundrie family home, purportedly from Roberta to her son, included references to getting Brian out of prison with a shovel, Patrick Reilly, the attorney for Gabby’s parents, previously revealed.

The envelope reportedly had “burn after reading” written on it.
