Gabby Logan hailed for inspiring BBC sign-off after England's heroic Euro 2022 triumph

Gabby Logan has been the subject of huge praise for her moving rally cry at the end of the BBC's coverage of the Lionesses historic win over Germany.

Emotions were running high inside Wembley after England had just secured their first major tournament success for 56 years with a European Championship triumph over a side that have enjoyed such dominance in the same competition.

Logan has been the face of the tournament's coverage, alongside former England international Alex Scott, Arsenal legend Ian Wright and current Gunners boss Jonas Eidevall. BBC stalwart Logan provided the perfect finishing touch to what was an incredible campaign for the Lionesses with a rousing speech to sign off the tournament.

The quartet in the punditry gantry were discussing the increased level of support in women's football as a result of Euro 2022, while Logan thanked everyone who helped make the coverage of the tournament possible before capping off the night with an emotional message.

"Is this a game-changing moment? Well, the record audiences on TV and crowds in the stadiums has been fantastic, brilliant. But to really move the sport on, we need you. If you’ve enjoyed it, get yourself along to a WSL [Women’s Super League] game this season, even if you only go to one or two.

"The Lionesses have brought football home. Now it’s down to the rest of us to make sure it stays here. You think it’s all over? It’s only just begun. From all of us, goodbye."

Scott was also celebrated for her straight-talking assessment of the clubs that previously turned down the chance to host women's fixtures. "I hope you’re all looking at yourself right now because you weren’t brave enough," the former Arsenal star said.

"I’m not standing up at corporate events in front of sponsors anymore begging for them to get involved in the women’s game because you know what? If you’re not involved, you’ve missed the boat, you’ve missed the train," the ex-Lionesses talent added. "Because look at this… it has finally left the station and it is gathering speed."

Plenty of records were broken as the Lionesses secured their first ever major trophy. Wembley welcomed 87,000 people for the game - the most amount of people that have ever attended a European Championship contest.

The game was the most-watched event of 2022 so far, with 17.4million people tuning in on television.
