Gabriel Agbonlahor has hit back at Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp for getting ‘personal’ in the wake of their mini-spat.
The Liverpool boss called out former Aston Villa striker Agbonlahor for his ‘unbelievable’ criticism of Manchester United and Erik Ten Hag on his TalkSPORT show, claiming he was close to ringing in and recalling a time when his side thumped Villa 6-0.
And Agbonlahor has hit back at the German manager for what he considered a ‘personal’ attack, explaining how he was just doing his job as a pundit and being honest.

“Every pundit, everyone in the pub, every girl talking to her mates, would say exactly the same things about Man United as I did,” the pundit told the Daily Mail. “Man United fans on the phone-in were saying ten times worse.
“So for Klopp to say that was a bit strange and to mention the 6-0 was even stranger. Why make it personal? What should I have said? That Man Utd were ‘splendidly unlucky to lose 4-0?’ I just told the truth.”
Klopp and his Liverpool charges travelled to Old Trafford just days after the initial comments and were met by a resurgent Red Devils who came out 2-1 winners. The defeat compounded a lacklustre start to the new season, and ex-England international Agbonlahor took his chance to stick the boot in by rehashing Klopp’s ‘mentality monster’ remark.
He added: “Why was he defending Man United? And the whole ‘Gabby who?’ thing. [Klopp] pretending not to know my surname. Why?
“He has watched football. He will know my name. And then his team lose at Man United anyway. He was talking about me not being a mentality monster. Well his team didn't look like mentality monsters in that game did they?
“And he is supposed to be the mentality monster king.”
