GAA team news as Cillian O'Connor boost for Mayo in do or die encounter with Galway

Cillian O’Connor has returned to the Mayo squad ahead of Sunday’s do or die encounter with Galway at Salthill.

O’Connor wasn’t in the Mayo panel for last weekend’s defeat by Cork.

Sam Callinan is drafted into the starting side in place of Donnacha McHugh in the only change from the Pairc Ui Chaoimh encounter.

Eoghan McLaughlin, Tommy Conroy and Enda Hession continue to be held in reserve, but it would be no major surprise if any of them started with Mayo’s season on the line.

Meanwhile, Galway have named skipper Sean Kelly and target man Damien Comer to start.

Comer didn’t play in last weekend’s defeat by Armagh due to a hamstring problem, while Kelly limped off late in the game after scoring a goal and winning a penalty.

It is unclear how fit either man is, but they are probably Galway’s two most important players so they seem certain to play some role in the game.

John Maher is restored to midfield on the named side with Billy Mannion dropping out and Cillian McDaid moving to wing back.

Dylan McHugh is only deemed fit enough for a place on the bench with Cathal Sweeney, who started against Armagh, listed in the subs.

It would be no surprise if Sweeney started in place of one of the forwards and moved to the half back line to facilitate John Daly dropping off as a spare defender, or Johnny Heaney could move back.

Meanwhile, Donegal have recalled Jason McGee to bolster their middle third effort against Tyrone at MacCumhaill Park tomorrow evening with Odhran Doherty dropping out.

Tyrone have drafted in Darren McCurry after he missed their weekend draw with Westmeath.

Aidan Clarke drops out of the starting line up, while Frank Burns, Kieran McGeary, Niall Sludden and Cathal McShane all named on the bench again.

Monaghan have named Shane Carey to start their encounter with Kildare.

Darren Hughes is listed on the bench, but is likely to start - as he did last weekend wearing number 20 on his back - with Conor McManus also in the subs.

Kildare have listed Kevin Feely on their bench despite his four point haul in the win over Roscommon last weekend, with Aaron Masterson listed in the starting line-up.

But it would be no major shock if Feely started with an All-Ireland quarter-final place on the line.

Daniel Flynn is also listed outside the starting 15, but could be drafted in.

Meanwhile, Cork have named Rory Deane in their attack for this afternoon’s meeting with Roscommon at Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

All-action Deane was forced out of the Mayo win after shipping a heavy knock when he was playing very well.

The team is unchanged from the Mayo game with 1-5 hero Stephen Sherlock named on the bench again.

Opponents, Roscommon have recalled Ciaran Lennon after last weekend’s defeat by Kildare, with Donie Smith named on the bench.
