G7 Leaders Meet To Address Iran's Attack On Israel

G7 ministerial meetings, in Tokyo

US President Joe Biden is convening with fellow G7 leaders on Sunday to address what he has described as an 'urgent diplomatic response' to Iran's recent attack on Israel. The virtual talks, led by Italy as the current president of the G7, are set to commence at 10 a.m. ET, with officials seen arriving at the White House in preparation for the discussions.

The focus on diplomacy underscores Biden's intention to pursue a non-military approach in response to the drone and missile strikes carried out by Iran, with the aim of mitigating the potential escalation of conflict.

In a recent phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Biden reiterated the United States' stance of not engaging in offensive military actions against Iran. Instead, he encouraged Netanyahu to view the successful interception of the Iranian weapons as a positive outcome.

The G7, short for the Group of Seven, comprises leaders from some of the world's largest economies, including Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The annual summit serves as a platform for G7 members to address critical global issues and coordinate policy responses.
