Organisers have postponed action at the World Surf League's G-Land event in Indonesia due to small waves on Sunday.

Surfing got underway on Saturday at Banyuwangi with the first round in both the women's and men's completed.

Following the mid-season cut the format changed with only top finisher in round one advancing, while the other two surfers go into the elimination round.

Seven-time surfing world champion Stephanie Gilmore advanced directly through to the Roxy Pro quarter-finals while Tyler Wright and Sally Fitzgibbons face the sudden-death round when competition resumes.

Wright will take on West Australian Bronte Macaulay in the elimination round, while Fitzgibbons faces Isabella Nichols in another all-Australian match-up.

In the men's Quiksilver Pro draw, Australians Jack Robinson and Ethan Ewing won their respective heats, with three-time world champion Gabriel Medina, John John Florence, Italo Ferreira, and Griffin Colapinto among the others to make it through.
