Future teased for former Mecca Bingo site and historic theatre

The future of a former Mecca Bingo site and historic theatre has been teased its new owners.

The Garrick Theatre on Lord Street, Southport, former home to the multi-million pound bingo firm, was bought last year after it was left vacant by Mecca Bingo.

The building was initially set to go up for auction but after a number of offers, it was removed from the market and sold. The new owner of the site had been kept anonymous until now.

It has been revealed the future of the building will ensure the heritage and Grade II listed status is "preserved".

A full announcement on plans for the building is expected in to be made soon.

New co-owner Niki Anderson said: “We cannot wait to reveal our full plans for the Garrick Theatre building and we are working very closely with partners and the Theatres trust to bring these plans to life."

“The Garrick is an iconic venue and while the building does need a lot of work, we are doing everything to ensure its heritage and Grade Listed Status is preserved."

“Keep your eyes peeled for further updates in the coming weeks when we’ll be revealing our huge plans for how the building will operate.

“But rest assured a theatre and performance space will be at the heart of our plans. The Garrick will live on for years to come.”
