The future of a Twynholm pub appears to have been secured.
A public meeting was held on Friday night to discuss the future of The Star Hotel.
And it now looks set to be taken on by the community, with another meeting to establish a committee due to take place last night – and the first pints set to be poured tomorrow.
Owner Suzie Thorpe said: “It was a really good meeting. There is still the formal committee stuff to sort out but it was agreed informally to get the pub open again.
“It was really well attended and there was lots of good support so fingers crossed we can keep it going.
“They have asked me to be involved in helping get set up and I can then be a volunteer like everyone else.”
Suzie, who lives in Dunscore, had been looking to move on after running the pub for 14 years.
A sale appeared to have been agreed only to fall through at the last minute, putting the future of iconic Star – often mentioned in F1 TV commentaries during Twynholm ace David Coulthard’s career – in doubt.
But now it is set to be run on a community, not-for-profit basis to ensure locals still have somewhere to drink.
Initially it will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday – starting tomorrow.
Suzie added: “It will certainly be opening this weekend, I’ll be working with them helping with training and the formal side of things will be working away in the background. There’s never been a shortage of customers and support. We just need to try to keep the momentum going.”
