Future of forgotten Celtic man is not in loan club's hands

Celtic hold the future of loan defender Gustaf Lagerbielke in their own hands, Twente Enschede technical director Jan Streuer has revealed.

The Swedish defender is a key player for the Dutch side and has impressed since his loan move at the start of the season.

However, Twente didn't include an option to buy in the deal and would have to negotiate a transfer fee with the Scottish Premiership champions.

Lagerbielke, who still has two-and-a-half years left of his Parkhead deal, hinted earlier this month he would be keen to turn the move into a permanent one.

But Twente's Streuer admits the ball is in Celtic's court.

He said: "We'll have to wait and see. It's also important to find out what Celtic wants

"Do they want to keep him? Do they see him as part of their squad or not?

"For us, he is a good player. He has a good mentality and is a good header of the ball. He is getting better and better. But we have no idea what Celtic wants.

"Do they have enough good players there already? Maybe they want to loan him out for another year. We have to wait and see."

Lagerbielke cost Celtic £4 million when he signed in 2023 from his homeland club Elfsborg.
