Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday said he held only “brief discussions” on Cabinet rejig or expansion with BJP national president J.P. Nadda, and further discussion will be held when he is here for the State executive committee meeting scheduled to be held on April 16 and 17.
“I had a brief discussion on Cabinet expansion. The party top brass has obtained all information. Mr. Nadda has said further discussion would be held during his visit to Karnataka for the executive committee meeting,” he said. After deliberation on the issue at the meeting, the party chief will take a final decision after consulting senior leaders and the BJP national general secretary, Mr. Bommai said.
Pressure has been mounting on the Chief Minister to expand or rejig his Cabinet soon, after the recent Assembly elections in five States, with some advocating a complete rehaul of Cabinet ahead of elections next year. Some leaders were camping in Delhi ahead of the Chief Minister’s visit to the national capital in the hope of the rejig plans taking a concrete shape.
“Mr. Nadda has also asked me to make all preparations for the State executive committee meeting and discuss on how to prepare to face the next Assembly elections,” the Chief Minister said.
On his other programmes in Delhi, Mr. Bommai said, “My Delhi visit this time was successful as I met Union Ministers for Water Resources, Energy, Environment, Finance and Defence. I have received a positive response from them.”
