Furlong and Lowe on course to make Champions Cup decider in Marseille after injury scares

Leinster are confident that James Lowe and Tadhg Furlong will be fit for the Heineken Champions Cup final in Marseille.

Both Ireland stars are on the injured list with 12 days to go to Leinster's Heineken Champions Cup final in Marseille.

Furlong limped out of last Saturday's semi-final victory over Toulouse in the 17th minute after suffering an ankle problem and Leinster's scrum suffered in his absence.

However the Blues proved far too strong for the reigning champions, prevailing 40-17 at the Aviva Stadium.

Lowe was again instrumental in the Blues' dominance, scoring two tries in an all-action display, but the Ireland winger is also sweating over his fitness ahead of Saturday week's decider against Ronan O'Gara's La Rochelle.

The Kiwi suffered a shin injury in the last play of the last four clash and, like Furlong, will be assessed by Leinster medics in the coming days.

Neither Furlong or Lowe were expected to play in Leinster's final regular URC fixture of the season, against Munster at the Aviva Stadium, on Saturday evening.

But backs coach Felipe Contepomi is confident they will be OK.

"Yeah they're not available for this week but I would feel confident that they would both be fit to play next week," said Contepomi.

"Obviously they have a minor injury but we are not overly concerned about them.

"But we'll see, you never know with this, you can have setbacks and the medics will know better probably at the end of the week, how they are progressing."

Leo Cullen hinted after the Toulouse victory that, with Leinster's top seeding in the URC already secured, he will rest his frontliners for the interpro that comes just a week out from the Blues' sixth Champions Cup final appearance.

Hooker Rónan Kelleher failed a HIA on Saturday and will go through return to play protocols this week, but is expected to be available for the Marseille decider.

Jordan Larmour, who will return to full training this week after a hip injury, will hope to make an impact if selected against Munster that could give Cullen food for thought for the European final.
