Furious woman slams taxi driver who left her 'scared and being catcalled by men'

A woman has slammed a taxi driver for leaving her stranded in the street while men shouted rude comments at her.

She took to Facebook to fume about the Redditch taxi driver who "refused to take her debit card payment" and left her feeling unsafe at night.

The irate woman called for a "bit of common decency" from the driver, with many social media users brandishing his actions as "absolutely disgusting" and a "disgrace", Birmingham Live reports.

On Friday night the woman wrote: “I was waiting for a taxi on Unicorn Hill this evening and various men were shouting obscene things at me as a female alone.

“The taxi driver asked me if I knew the men, I told him no.

"He then told me if I wanted to get in his car it would be £10 plus an extra £2 if I didn’t have cash.

"I asked him to drive me home because I didn’t feel safe, and without the cash he would not do so. I appreciate the cost of fuel is high but I was happy and willing to pay by card.

"It doesn’t take a genius to see someone who does not feel comfortable. A bit of common decency would have gone a long way.

"I cannot believe any human being would have left anyone, male or female, in that situation when all it takes is a bit of common courtesy.”

Appalled residents urged the woman to report the taxi driver to the Worcestershire County Council and licensing authorities.

It comes after recent concerns for women's safety following Sarah Everard's murder and the recent reclaim the night events.

Denise Smith said: "Absolutely disgusting he should have his license revoked."

Catherine Kane commented: "No woman should be left in that situation. Some men should be ashamed.

"If you or any other woman feel threatened again go in to a a pub or restaurant and ring for a taxi from there. What a disgrace some males are, they are not men."

Alan Burley added: "That's absolutely disgusting. I hope your OK. Bless u, That taxi driver is bang out of order, what is wrong with the world. What has happened to common decency.

"The driver took advantage of you for a couple of pounds that's awful he doesn't deserve his taxi licence.

"You was so brave in that situation, but I would report it to the taxi company and the police in case it happens again to some innocent poor lady out on her own.

"That's so terrible to hear, people please think of others the world has turned into a horrible place."
