Furious West Ham fans hatch Jesse Lingard 'fake money' plan for Nottingham Forest debut

West Ham United fans have put together a brutal plan to take revenge on Jesse Lingard after the former Manchester United man chose to sign for Nottingham Forest.

The England winger left Old Trafford at the end of last season with his contract expiring at the club. He was linked with a return to the London Stadium - Lingard having sparkled during a previous loan spell with West Ham during the 2020/21 season.

After nine goals in 16 games, the Hammers were expected to make a permanent move for his signature but that never materialised - Lingard then going on to have another season on the sidelines with Man Utd.

Becoming a free agent, there was a chase for his services this summer but Forest ended up being the surprise victors. Lingard was confirmed to have penned a lucrative one-year deal at the City Ground with some reports even claiming that he was set to be paid up to £150,000 per week by the newly-promoted side.

West Ham fans appear set to poke fun at that very fact with Lingard scheduled for a reunion with his former side in the early weeks of the season. Twitter user Whucentre formulated a plan for supporters to throw fake money at Lingard during the Hammers’ clash with Forest at the City Ground on August 14.

Sharing a screenshot of an Amazon page to fake money, they wrote: “Anyone else going to Forest away… you know what to do.”

It of course remains to be seen whether fellow Hammers supporters go through with the plan but it would certainly be a slightly different reception than he received in one of his more recent appearances against the club.

Travelling to the London Stadium with Man Utd just months after his loan spell, Lingard actually found the back of the net and then chose not to celebrate. Following the game, he explained why he chose to do just that, whilst praising supporters for their backing during his time as a West Ham player.

He said: "They supported me in the loan spell and gave me a great reception, so it was only right to pay them back.

"It was a great reception from the West Ham fans. I had a brilliant time here, but I had to do my bit."

Lingard has become just the latest in a long line of players to have signed for Forest this summer. 11 new players have already arrived at the club, with former Liverpool starlets Taiwo Awoniyi and Neco Williams among the standout signings.

Dean Henderson has also joined Steve Cooper’s men on a season-long loan.
