Furious Susanna Reid loses rag with 'idiot' protester identifying as Mr Broccoli

Furious Susanna Reid lost her rag with a protester identifying as broccoli on today's Good Morning Britain.

GMB viewers were left baffled, with some convinced they were drunk, when a giant broccoli was interviewed in the studio.

Mr Broccoli, from Extinction Rebellion's sister group Animal Rebellion, was arrested on Sunday and released without charge after shouting "give peas a chance".

Piers Morgan branded the protester, who claimed his job was to "just grow", an "idiot" during a heated debate.

While Susanna blasted Mr Broccoli for making plant-based jokes and puns while trying to get a serious point across.

Susanna initially called him out for repeatedly calling her co-host "peas" instead of Piers.

She said: "Your argument, dressed up as broccoli, strikes me as so absurd that you’re wearing a costume but you’re trying to get a serious point across about veganism."

Angered Susanna asked whether Mr Broccoli was actually a poser trying to "send up the whole movement".

Not helping his cause, he replied: "We are in serious hot water about this. It's going to go pear-shaped."

"This is a joke," exclaimed Susanna, while Mr Broccoli claimed "levity and humour" were important.

When Piers asked whether he had a TV, he answered: "I'm just a broccoli, Piers. I don't have electronics."

In another odd moment, Mr Broccoli then got a banana out of his pocket and pretended it was a mobile phone.

"Sorry I've just got a call," joked the protester, much to the annoyance of Piers and Susanna.

Susanna said: "When you use the fruit and vegetable comedy comments, I don’t think you’re helping your cause at all."

Once the interview had finished, Susanna said: "I’m really cross. They had a fantastic opportunity to come on the programme and promote their cause and they ruined it. Which is why I think they’re a plant from the meat industry,"

Good Morning Britain viewers took to Twitter after watching the bizarre interview.

One viewer said: "Woke up thinking I'm still drunk as they're interviewing a broccoli on the show"

"Is this geezer dressed as a broccoli talking to a banana, wtf," added another.

A third said: "What the hell is with this broccoli clown. Ridiculous"

"I’m done, #GMB interviewing an idiot dressed as a giant Broccoli, switched over to a everybody loves Raymond episode that I’ve seen 6 TIMES," said a fourth.
