Kris Boyd unleashed on Rangers after a disastrous night in Belgium left the Glasgow club fighting for Champions League survival.

Captain Teddy Teuma netted the opener after some lacklustre defending, before a VAR-awarded penalty allowed Dante Vanzeir to slot home from the spot. The referee decided to punish Connor Goldson for handball with the help of the video assistant, reports The Daily Record.

It leaves Rangers needing three goals to turn this tie on it's head and reach the group stage of UEFA's premier tournament for the first time in 12 years. While Boyd was left miffed by the penalty decision at the Den Dreef Stadium, the Ibrox favourite was left frustrated by the performance in Europe just three months on from reaching the showpiece final in Seville.
He told Sky Sports: "If there was anyone who underestimated the Belgians in Scotland tonight they have had a wake up call. They can perform at this level. But for Rangers, you've got to be doing better than you've done tonight. They were slow, lethargic and looked as if there was no energy about them. It's similar to the first half on Saturday.
"They got a lift against Livingston at the weekend, but tonight it was really, really poor. To be honest they are really lucky to come away with a 2-0. Rangers going back to Ibrox with a 2-0 defeat is probably the best they could have hoped for at this moment in time. Yes, the second one was a little bit dubious.
"It went to VAR and for me, Connor Goldson's hand was in an unnatural position but there was absolutely nothing he could do. They had a shot from the edge of the box, it hit Davies and came up and hit Connor Goldson as the two of them went to challenge it.
"It took a long time for the VAR to make the decision, and the referee went over to have a few looks at it. We all know that when you go to the monitor you ain't going to change your mind.
"As soon as that goal went in it became an uphill challenge for Rangers. They're going to need that Ibrox crowd again. The fans can turn up and get behind you, but the players are going to have to put on a far, far better performance than they did tonight. They'll hopefully have Ryan Kent back, who has been one of the star performers in Europe, and Alfredo Morelos. They looked a pale shadow of the team we seen in Europe last season, that's for sure."
