Furious Fernando Alonso wags finger at Lewis Hamilton in unseen footage after Spa crash

Fernando Alonso was left furious with his former McLaren teammate Lewis Hamilton after the pair were involved in a collision on the opening lap of the Belgian Grand Prix.

After Hamilton attempted to overtake the Spaniard, Alonso's front wing smashed into the Brit's right tyre and resulted in his car lifting off the ground. The incident forced the seven-time world champion to retire from the race, while the Spaniard was able to continue and finished fifth.

The Alpine driver also tore into Hamilton's driving over the team radio at the time, shouting: What an idiot! Closing the door from the outside. I mean, we had a mega start but this guy only knows how to drive and start in first."

And now new footage has also emerged from the aftermath of the collision, where Alonso appears to furiously wag his finger at Hamilton while driving past him.

Reflecting on the incident immediately after the race, Hamilton admitted it was his fault, telling Sky Sports: "I'm looking back at the footage and he was in my blind spot and I didn't leave him enough space.

"So it was my fault and I paid the price. I'm just sorry for the team, we had a chance of P3 and P4 today.

"The car felt good on the laps to the grid, we'd got it into a good place and I'd made a good start. After three weeks away, I was looking forward to racing today so it's frustrating, but it is what it is.

"Right now, my job is to focus on the next race, I need to recuperate and get back on the treadmill." Hamilton was also asked about Alonso's "idiot" jibe and whether he would discuss the crash with him.

"I would have until I heard what he said," the seven-time world champion replied. "I don't really have a response to it.

"I know how things feel in the heat of the moment, but it's nice to know how he feels about me. It's better that it's out in the open how he feels, and like I said, it wasn't intentional, and I take responsibility for it. That's what adults do."
