Funeral to take place for 'hugely popular' young Irishman who died in Canada

The funeral of a young Irishman who tragically died in Canada will take place in his hometown next week.

Kyle Luby passed away suddenly in Vancouver last month.

More than €50,000 was raised by kind-hearted members of the public to help Kyle's family bring him back home to Ireland.

Kyle's funeral will take place in Ballytivnan, Co Sligo on Monday, June 8.

Due to the current HSE restrictions on funeral gatherings, the mass and burial will be private to family only. The mass will be streamed live online.

A post on RIP.ie reads: "The death has occurred of Kyle Luby unexpectedly, in Vancouver, Canada. Dearly loved son of Derek and Jackie, cherished brother of Gavin and Shannon, sister in law Stephanie. Sadly missed by his loving family; Grannies Breege Luby (Sligo) and Dettie Shannon (Frenchpark) aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and a wide circle of friends.

Kyle's friends held a memorial for him in Vancouver last week.

A number of candles were placed on a table, decorated with green, white and orange balloons alongside a picture of Kyle.

St Michael's GAA club in Co Sligo paid tribute to the "hugely popular" youngster following his death.

They posted on Facebook: "The club is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our former player and club member Kyle Luby.

"Kyle was a hugely popular character among his fellow players and his finest moment for St. Michaels undoubtedly came with his great performance at centre half back in the Under 16 championship final victory of 2010. He will be sorely missed by his loving family and large group of friends."
