Funeral Procession Begins For Victims Of Iranian Consulate Airstrike

Houthis hold military funeral procession for fighters killed by U.S.-led strikes, in Sanaa

The funeral procession for victims of an airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria, earlier this week has begun in Tehran. The attack resulted in the deaths of at least seven Iranian officials, including Mohammed Reza Zahedi and Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, both high-ranking commanders in Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).

Additionally, at least six Syrian citizens lost their lives in the attack, as reported by Iranian state television on Tuesday. Both Iran and Syria have accused Israel of orchestrating the airstrike, prompting Tehran to issue a warning of a “serious response” to the incident.

While the Israeli military has refrained from commenting on foreign reports, a military spokesperson did acknowledge that Israel believes the target of the attack was a “military building of Quds forces,” a unit within the IRGC responsible for foreign operations.

The incident has escalated tensions in the region, with Iran and Syria condemning the attack and vowing to hold the perpetrators accountable. The funeral procession in Tehran serves as a somber reminder of the lives lost in this tragic event, highlighting the ongoing conflict and geopolitical complexities in the Middle East.
