The funeral of Scots Pop Idol star Darius Campbell Danesh has been held in Bearsden, following his sudden death.
Darius, 41, was found unresponsive in his apartment room in Rochester, Minnesota, on August 11 and was pronounced dead in the afternoon by the local medical examiner's office.
Today, family and friends gathered for a service in the town in East Dunbartonshire, to pay their final respects to the singer and actor.
It is understood the star’s coffin was piped into the hearse as a lone piper played Caledonia, reports Glasgow World.
Fellow Scot and close friend Gerard Butler is believed to have been in attendance at the funeral. In a recent tribute, he described Darius as "our brightest boy" and added: "I am devastated by the sudden passing of my dear friend Darius, a true brother in arms. My thoughts and love go to his wonderful mum and dad Avril and Booth and his two brilliant brothers Aria and Cyrus.
"To those lucky enough to have met Darius for more than a few minutes, they were deeply moved by his infectious laugh and barely containable zest for life. He was always armed with a smile, a booming voice, and a genuinely warm embrace that few could resist-nor would they want to!!! He was an incredible talent, a singer whose voice touched your soul and an actor with great presence.
"But, most importantly, he had the heart of a lion. It was bigger and brighter than the sun and an energy so contagious he could light up a room in seconds.
"Our boy Darius was always constant and unwavering in his passion for life. But a bigger constant was his dream to inspire others to better themselves. He talked the talk but boy, did he walk the walk."
On Twitter, comedian Omid Djalili also paid tribute to Darius and said: "Funeral today in Bearsden for Darius Campbell Danesh. Such a lovely talented man gone way too soon. People were always taken aback by how much of a true gentleman he was. God bless his soul. Rest in peace my brother."
It was revealed today that recordings by Darius have been uncovered which could see him back in the charts. His pal, Scots singer and actress Erin Gavin, wants to record one of Darius’ unpublished demos as a tribute to him.
The recordings were sent to her by record company bosses in the hope the pair could collaborate on the songs. Erin, who found fame as a Marilyn Monroe tribute act but also performs as a solo singer, said: “Seven songs recorded by Darius were sent to me by my label in the UK prior to lockdown.
“His rich tones can clearly be heard singing the lyrics to them on the demos. He was great, however for some reason he chose not to record them for release. He must have chosen to pass on them for his own reasons.”
